Dr Chellam Kirubakaran has been working as a Consultant Paediatrician for more than 40 years. She had her basic medical education at Tanjore Medical College in South India and post-graduate training in Paediatrics at the prestigious Christian Medical College & Hospital in Vellore, South India. She also had further training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Adelaide for a total of 5 years. In addition, she has worked at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago and The Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati in USA.
She was working as Professor of Paediatrics and Head of the Department at the Christian Medical College & Hospital in Vellore, South India for more than 20 years before moving to Australia. She joined the Mildura Base Hospital as Staff Specialist in Paediatics where she worked for 12 years.
She has special interest in Paediatric Allergy Disorders and underwent further education in this field. She has been conducting the only Paediatric allergy clinic in Mildura for the past two years.
Besides working as a clinician, she has also been involved in conducting clinical research and has published more than 150 papers in national and international journals. She has also been teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students in Paediatrics and has been an examiner for several years.
Currently she consults from her rooms in the Irymple Medical Centre. She also conducts the Paediatric Allergy Clinic in the same premises.
